So basically, being Asian, you fell into your parents’ pressure of doing something involving science, to fulfill their desire to brag about their son, who makes beaucoup money, because as an immigrant, money is the key to solve all your problems.
Yep, that’s what I thought at the time. I don’t know if he actually went on with this endeavor, but I in the meantime, went took my “practical” route in life, only to find myself not one, but 2 soul-sucking jobs. Comparisons and contrasts aside though, maybe he actually found science to be fascinating. Just because K-12 education in the US isn’t exactly the most ideal environment for fostering learning, and didn’t capture my imagination, doesn’t mean that someone else wasn’t captivated by learning about science. Maybe we should look at the ways we present things in schools…
In fact, this is pretty awesome, if you think about it! So, maybe it’s time we thought about education reform.
