I likez to keep it real, yo! HAHAHA!
I hate dubbing in movies in any language, and I especially hate it when songs are just translated in another language it shouldn’t be. I will admit though, sometimes the singer does do a better job with the cover song, but it’s still not the original. Just like those “digital re-masters” of old LP discs. Sure, maybe the sound is more clear compared to a black vinyl record, but it’s just not the same.
I’m not hatin’ on Jacky. I want to search for the ORIGINAL stuff!
So here’s a list of songs that have been changed to fit Cantonese palates. I need the entire world’s help in finding the original song, please!

Names of the Music Composers are usually written in Chinese, so even if the name奈々子(ななこ) showed up, it’d usually be rendered in Chinese most of the time. Or, it’ll all be in traditional characters, so 渡辺 would be written as 渡邊
Some names were misspelled in the CD booklet, but I left them the way they were. Didn’t bother to change them. Kaoru, j.p. has more detailed information on these, and many other songs from 張學友.
Names of Korean Music Composers were written in English and often misspelled, so my “한글ization” of these names might even be wrong. (you know, the wholeㅗ ㅓ/ㅜ ㅓ,ㅐ/ㅔ problem and whatnot)
If I have anything that’s wrong, such as any spelling of names, please let me know. Also, some songs may actually be Natively-Hong Kong, and I wouldn’t have a way of checking unless someone gave me the evidence. Don Ashley was a man who composed a significant number of 張學友’s songs. It wasn’t until February 21,2008, that I found out from James, that he was a native of Hong Kong. So if there’s anyone else in this category, please let me know so I can take their names off the list.
Thank you, James, for having exposed me to the original versions of most of these songs at your store, and thank you, Kaoru, j.p., for allowing me to find the information that I’ve always been looking for. Your site clarified a lot of inconsistencies other sites had.

Such a wonderful compilation! I’m also hugely interested in searching for originals of songs covered by HK/Taiwan singers. Your work is by far the best I’ve seen.
A few points to mention though:
1. A friend of 鈴木キサブローjust wrote me that Keith Brown is the name Mr. Suzuki used when writing the song “smile again”
2. A mistake in the song “壯志驕陽”: the orignal song should be Kan’s “愛は勝つ” instead of “悲しみは雪のように” which was covered by 巫启贤 once, if I remember it correctly.
3. 再愛上妳’s original version is Glenn Medeiros’ Me-U=Blue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQOX7dzQY6w
4. I have the original version of 你是我今生唯一傳奇 back in my home in China. It is in a compilation CD. I just can’t remember the name. Will check it out later.
5. I believe “In love with you” was an original song since John Laudon, lead vocal of the former HK band Citybeat whose Chinese name is 刘诺生, used to write songs for quite a few HK singers.
6. 除了這些 還有…’s original song is “被给予的时间结束(주어진 시간 끝에서)”
by 玻璃箱子, a Korean duo band.
7. 二人世界 is another mistake. This should be an orignal song by Richard Yuen (袁卓繁）. The one “二人世界”, whose original song is Timothy B.Schmidt’s So much in Love, should be covered by Alam 林子祥。
8. 初吻’s original song is Newton Family’s “carnival”.
9. In the album “祇願一生愛一人”, there is another covered song”Cry”, whose original song is David Halliday “High”。
BTW，祇願一生愛一人 has another covered song “亲亲” whose orginal should be 姜鄂’s “亲亲”。

Thanks for the comment! I knew people were actually viewing my site quite a bit, but you’re the first person who isn’t a relative or personal friend I know that has actually commented on this page (not even talking about the rest of my site yet).
I actually have a list of other cover songs done by other artists, and was even thinking of adding a separate page for that too, but haven’t had the time to do so. Now to tackle some of the issues bit by bit…
1. That is good to know. Hopefully someone will actually read the comments and see that. Learn something new everyday.
2. “悲しみは雪のように” was from a bad source, and I thought I’d updated it a long time ago to Kan’s “愛は勝つ”. But thank you for catching that.
5, 7, & 8. I would have to check out and listen to the song myself, before I can actually put down the original title and singer’s information with determination.
6. Some of the Korean videos aren’t readily available, or are already lost. I have some of the songs downloaded, and haven’t had the time to upload them. I found the particular song you were talking about, but haven’t had a chance to download and upload it here.
Everything else however, I’ve taken your suggestions and updated my site accordingly. Once again, thanks for your comments. I hope to hear again from you whenever you get some more updates, or whenever you can send me samples and information about those other songs.

Sorry for the delay in response. Your first post was caught in my spam box, and I haven’t had much of a chance to update my blogs, with semester finals and many other things going on.

The source I had for 井上陽水’s “新しいラプソディー” merely put in “ラプソディー” I mean… “New Rhapsody” vs “Rhapsody”… I don’t know…
It’s a good thing you pointed out to me about “Sana Kahit Minsan” though. I’m surprised I didn’t have that song listed on the chart (probably did, and then deleted it on accident, because my computer was getting quirky on me again). But originally, I thought it was a Japanese song like most everything is. But I double-checked, and you are correct, it is indeed Phillipino.

So, if you can’t open some links, probably I can’t either. Anyhow, what is that file? Is it 張學友 – 親親’s original version? or just Jacky’s version? I can try to find alternative source for you. But need to know what it is.
Wow! You did a good job researching on this! Why not try Leon Lai’s and Grasshopper’s too! They also like to revise songs from Japanese/English singers. ^^
張學友 is my favourite singer. I started looking up these songs because I sort of wanted to understand his songs better. I actually have another list filled with other artists and some of their cover songs, but haven’t really come around to posting it up yet.
